Different areas have different animals which can be hunted. Some animals, such as moose, bears, and boars, will charge if surprised, angered, startled, or threatened. Special animals which can be regarded as game bosses have to be hunted also in a special way to unlock the next hunting area. Hogzilla — a huge, ill-tempered wild boar. Pincushion — a white-tailed deer who has been shot several times before and has always been able to live another day.
Northeast Double Shovel — a trophy caribou. The game points you toward a free hunt mode instead but the objective heavy and structured levels clearly offer the better experience.
Then to rub salt in that wound, you have to do this alone. There is no ability to hunt as a group with friends. This is a solitary experience and with the long and arduous periods of stealth and skulking around, this can become a mundane and rather lonely experience. The game doesn't bring the series into the next generation with a shiny new coat of paint.
It offers a better art style for sure, though this leads to lower frame rates and performance issues.
Plus a lot of the textures present are still not brilliantly imagined and are generally inconsistent throughout. The sound quality does an awful lot to help patch over this issue. With sounds and ambient noises of the wild that really do give an authentic feel of nature.
It does wonders for players seeking immersion. Though its a shame the visuals couldn't compliment this. This game has a lot of qualities that make it by far and away from the best hunting game on the market for this time. Though as you would imagine, there isn't a lot of competition and when comparing this with a top-end FPS title, it falls well short of the mark. Unique mechanics, professional commentary and ambient sounds do elevate this game to a level where those who are interested in the sport of hunting will really appreciate this title.
Though thanks to the niche fan base for this game plus the performance issues present, it wouldn't be something we would recommend to casual FPS players. Despite some very good points, like the movements and habits of animals and the ballistics, some details of the game are too disjointed to give a sense of realism, giving the impression that you're in a rustic version of Call of Duty rather than a true hunting simulation. The sniper rifle that you're given at the beginning of the game, predators that roam nonchalantly alongside herbivores, and the ability to reload your gun in a split second while receiving advice via walkie-talkie are all a bit too unrealistic.
The bias of the developers isn't a failure in itself, but don't expect a highly realistic game. Also, be aware that the game menus, designed for consoles, are catastrophic on PC and will leave you wanting to hunt down the developers, as well as the animals. This edition of Cabela's Big Game Hunter Pro Hunts is only average for a game of this genre, and especially for a product from a publisher like Activision.
The scenery, vegetation, and animal animations are years behind the competition. The publisher has, however, included some special effects meant to make up for it, although it's clear that not everyone will be a fan. For each bullet you fire, there's a Hollywood-like slow-motion effect that tracks the path of your bullet.
With a transparent view through the body of the animal, you'll get a very clear view of the affected organs at the end of each hunt. While this feature is pretty interesting, it may not exactly be in good taste. The map is huge and there are tons of different weapons and species, but Cabela's lack of difficulty and its more glamorous side won't suit everybody.
While it's ideal for beginners and those who don't mind a bit less realism, others would be better off choosing The Hunter , which is much better suited for realists and fans of precision. World Hunter PC hunting game. Hunt for Bighorn sheep, whitetail deer and birds. Laws concerning the use of this software vary from country to country.
